Former Reliance Entertainment Digital CEO Rohit Sharma launches WopShop.com
23 Feb 2012

Rohit Sharma, former CEO of Reliance Entertainment (Digital), has partnered two of his former colleagues from the same company for launching an ecommerce site WopShop.com featuring toys. According to Afaqs, the site subsequently plans to expand into stationery, home entertainment and publishing. Rohit Sharma has partnered Vaibhav Odhekar who is the co-founder and chief operating officer of WopShop.com, along with Sanjeev Singhal, who is the co-founder and CTO of WopShop.com.

Rohit Sharma, CEO of WopShop.com, says, "There were three primary reasons for entering into the e-commerce space - the great potential this segment offers, the opportunity to explore the kids segment, which is still unchartered territory in the e-commerce space, and the expertise our core team has accumulated over a period of time working at Zapak."

The portal caters to all age groups, including infants, toddlers, boys and girls in the 0-12 years age bracket. The team says that the differentiator of the site is the daily discounts and offers (like add-ons and freebies), which ensure that the customers get a value-for-money deal every time they shop.

What a dumb comment from Mr.Sharma - how can he say Kids segment is an unchartered territory when players like Firstcry, Babyoye, Hoopos, Hushbabies are sitting on piles of funding from leading investors. Some players are almost 2 years old and are deep rooted in this segment. Plus wopshop looks severely underdone and outdated. Also on the offerings side, it looks like a chinese shop selling overstock products.
