JantaKhoj.com launched to offer people search and background verifications services

Hyderabad-based JantaKhoj InfoServices has launched JantaKhoj.com, a people search portal that aims to simplify people search and background verifications for individual consumers and businesses in India. JantaKhoj.com claims to have a vast database covering more than three hundred million Indians.

According to the company, its premium services for individual customers cover background verification of matrimonial candidates, domestic help, drivers and tenants. JantaKhoj.com also offers employee background verification services to businesses.

Tarun Bangari, founder and CEO, JantaKhoj, "We have a vision to democratize the background verification process and bring it within easy reach of every individual and to promote greater transparency in society by enabling deeper insights into the background of various individuals."

Ajit Gupta, founder and chairman, JantaKhoj, has said, "The sheer size of Indian population combined with the difficulty in accessing and searching the public records for reference and background information, means that a big opportunity exists in the sphere of people search and background verification checks."

To begin with...a GREAT idea..hats off Mr. Tarun for even the thought of bringing some semblance of transparency in this country...

But everyone here is mentioning that data is sourced from online public forums...but tell me one thing...how many drivers post their details online..for us to be able to do a background check on them ? Am I missing something here..

I understand why the other guy is so much against this search portal. I just checked his background and oh man!! I wonder how he is got a job with such an intensive criminal background. only if his employer did a background check on him first!!!

Hey..How can you post somebody personal info without prior consent. This is not an official directory/Yellowpages.
There has to be an option of delisitng as well

I dnt mean to discourage the idea..but the idea will surely create disputes. i mean you have personal details of people mentioned there. Is there an option of delisting yourself from the site ?

These #$!#!% have my name & telephone no. & are showing it by simple search on my name. I want this to be removed from my database. How can they show my private information in public & on top of it earn from it.

Each of the search results comes from a public record which is either already available on the web or listed in offline public domain sources. JantaKhoj is a people search engine that aggregates this information and presents it in one place just like Google aggregates information over the public web.

but websites like whitepages and all have been doing this for years in other countries. India should have got this eons ago but better late than never.

I dont think this portal will travel long on web. This is disputed area where they will face various legal implications. Without any one concerns if they start putting anyone's detail on web, will fetch illigal activities without concern. Also they are earning money indirectly through some one's info, which again attarct the debate.

I am not sure whether CEO & founder of this portals have done the legal home work towards this portal.
