UnwrapIndia is launched as an online marketplace housing Indian handicrafts manufactured by small and medium-sized entrepreneurs and NGOs. Backed by Adjetter media, the company claims of providing the artisans NGOs a bigger market which not limited by their geographical proximity and reach.
“India has approximately 34.5 million artisans and the size of the Indian handicraft industry is estimated to be around $8 billion in size according to multiple estimates, with around half of these products exported. Thus, while the novelty and ingenuity of Indian art and craft has been globally recognized, we, however, especially in urban India, in the blinding shine of foreign brands and products, often fail to acknowledge this excellence indigenous to us. With Unwrap India, the idea was to create a robust and lucid e-platform where artisans and consumers could do hassle-free trading,” the company said in a statement.
UnwrapIndia also intends to organize handicraft workshops in association with rural artisans and entrepreneurs with the aim of promoting these often neglected handicraft traditions.
