06 Jan 2012

Online travel company Yatra.com has acquired online event and entertainment guide BuzzInTown.com. Amitabh Saran, Co-founder and CEO of BuzzInTown has confirmed the development to us. However, he declined divulging details. We have reached out to Yatra and are awaiting comments. Co-founder and CEO Dhruv Shringi declined commenting.

Both the companies have Intel Capital as a common investor. In April 2011 Yatra had raised its second round of funds worth Rs 200 crore led by US-based Valiant Capital and existing investors Norwest Venture Partners and Intel Capital. Yatra had earlier raised Rs 150 crore through various rounds of investments by its existing shareholders that includes venture capital firms Norwest Venture Partners and Intel Capital, Anil Ambani group firm Reliance Venture Asset Management and Network 18. In 2009, Wortal Inc, which runs BuzzInTown.com, had received an undisclosed sum in investment from Intel Capital, as a part of a $25 million round of investment in seven new companies.

Dhruv Shringi, co-founder and CEO, Yatra.com, while raising the company’s second round, had said that Yatra is also looking for merger and acquisition opportunities in this segment to strengthen its presence.
